A
cashew processing factory belonging to Korosho Moçambique Limitada of ETG
(Export Trade Group), a company owned by investors from Mauritius and India,
came has started operating on the outskirts of the city of Nampula, in the
Mozambican province of the same name, Mozambican state news agency AIM
reported.
The
factory, inaugurated in northern Mozambique, by the Mozambican President Filipe
Nyusi, employs 700 workers and has the capacity to process 2,500 tonnes of
cashew nuts per year. By the end of 2020, the company plans to increase its
processing capacity to 10,000 tonnes per year.
The
plant currently produces about 500 tons of nuts, most of which are exported to
South Africa, Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada, among others.
This is the second cashew processing plant cashew
installed by the same group in Mozambique. The first has been operating for
over ten years in the Chiúre district of Cabo Delgado province, northern
Mozambique.
