The spokesman of the Ivorian
government on Wednesday expressed the government's determination to fight
against the flight of agricultural products to neighboring countries.
"It is leading a relentless
fight against the flight of agricultural products. Regarding cocoa, seizures
are made and for a while seizures were also made at the cashew" noted Mr.
Koné.
He said the security forces
composed of the Republican Forces of Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) and customs were
mobilized to prevent this "harmful practice" for the economy.
The spokesman of the government
has led to serious incidents that have recently erupted in the east between
young villagers and security forces who were trying to prevent them from
traveling to Ghana to sell their products.
The Ivorian economy is largely
based on agriculture, including the binomial coffee and cocoa. For decades,
Côte d'Ivoire holds the rank of world's top cocoa producer and third largest
coffee producer.
On several occasions, the Ivorian
authorities have reiterated their commitment to make every effort to boost
agricultural production and strengthen the country in the position it occupies
in the world.
