10% growth of almond cashew imports in Europe and the United States in 2015


Almond cashew imports from Europe and the United States increased by 10% each in 2015 compared to 2014, observed N'Kalô. In both markets, Vietnam strengthens its leading supplier position, representing 67 and 70% of imports. This is followed by India (between 18 and 22%) and Brazil (between 3.5 and 4%).

Africa accounts for only 5.4% of US imports in 2015, down from 2014 (6.2%) and 5.7% of those in the European Union, a slight increase from 2014 ( 5.7%).

In the US market, the first African exporters are by far the Ivory Coast (3433 tons in 2015) with a volume almost stable compared to 2014 and Mozambique (2369 tons) increase (34%). In terms of progress, Togo takes the cake with a rise of 96% in volumes, followed by Kenya (+ 39%) while Burkina Faso is a laggard with a fucking 98%, preceded by Ghana (-43%). Overall, exports from West Africa are down nearly 15% to 5,188 tons while that of Eastern Africa grew by 22%.

On the EU market, the main African suppliers are Tanzania (2017 tons) rose sharply (+ 69%) and Côte d'Ivoire (3887 tons), quasi-stable. The Benin (+ 165%), Madagascar (+ 107%) and Guinea (+ 97%) are the countries that have most developed their volume while Ghana (-54%) and Mozambique (29%) have the largest declines. Regionally, West African exports increased slightly (+ 6.2%) to 3868 tons and Eastern Africa increased significantly (+ 34%) to 2 620 tons in 2015.
